Pleasant pause for paws
Yonkers City Councilwoman Dee Barbato is doing more than casting a vote for the proposed new Yonkers Animal Shelter slated for groundbreaking on its new site across from Stew Leonard”™s adjacent to the New York State Thruway. Thursday, June 11, she opened her home in Yonkers for a shelter reception and fundraiser. More than 50 guests attended and listened attentively as Barbato and Yonkers Parks and Recreation Commissioner Augie Cambrio reviewed the plans for the 14,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility estimated to cost more than $4.3. million. Barbato emphasized the need for private donations to augment the $2.3 million already approved by the city government. A volunteer committee of supporters has been working on fundraising for more than a year. Its goal is to raise more than $2 million.
