Putting sugar in a gas tank is not a good thing to do; but perhaps in the not too distant future, sugar cane might be used to fuel your bio-vehicle.
Ray Cesca says bio-fuels will be “one of the leading factors in driving agriculture by the close of the decade.”
Cesca should know; he”™s president of the World Agriculture Forum, which will be holding its world congress this week in St. Louis. The focus of this year”™s meeting is something that Hudson Valley farmers can rally behind: “creating wealth and prosperity through agriculture.”
Cesca also holds this carrot stick out to the valley”™s farmers: if the use of switchgrass as an alternative energy source catches fire, local farmers can be leading producers since the Northeast is prime for growing the product.
With agriculture a major component of the Hudson Valley, we are committed to bringing the latest and most important issues to our readers. With that in mind, staff writer Bryan Yurcan will be covering the WAF World Congress this week and will be reporting back on all of the issues and initiatives addressed.
