Eat well, do well for the environment and learn about local food and farming.
That is the idea behind “A Seat at the Table,” sponsored by the Poughkeepsie Farm Project July 17 at 4 p.m. The fundraiser will include a five-course, family style meal based around produce from the farm and other fresh, local ingredients, held outdoors on the grounds of the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve off Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
The meal, complemented by local wines, will be prepared by chefs Megan and Charlie Fells of The Artist”™s Palate restaurant.
Tickets are $200 per person to benefit the nonprofit Poughkeepsie Farm Project, which hopes the fundraiser will be a yearly tradition in celebrating the hard work of local farmers and the connection between food, farms and the community.
Guests are asked to bring their own plate to a long, linen-draped table set within the farm”™s fields, to explore the connection between the earth and the food on their plate.Â
Entering its 12th season, the farm cultivates 10 acres from which more than 60 tons of certified naturally grown produce is harvested annually. Seventy-five percent of the yield is distributed among the families and individuals enrolled in the farm”™s community supported agriculture program. The remaining 25 percent of the harvest is distributed through the Food Share program, which addresses hunger and increases access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income community members.
Tickets can be bought online at http://farmproject.org/content/seat-table or by contacting tableseat@farmproject.org. Or call (845) 473-1415.
