The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $2.6 million to 16 health centers in Connecticut to fund treatment for mental health and opioid abuse, with five centers in Fairfield County receiving a total of $871,415.
Four Fairfield County health centers each received $175,700 in funding: Connecticut Institute for Communities Inc. in Danbury, Family Centers Inc. in Greenwich, Norwalk Community Health Center Inc. in Norwalk and Optimus Health Care Inc. in Bridgeport.
A fifth regional center, Southwest Community Health Center Inc. in Bridgeport, received $168,615. HHS allocated a total of $200 million to 1,178 health centers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories.
Connecticut”™s congressional designation issued a joint statement welcoming the funding, but also challenged the White House to do more.
“We call on the Trump Administration to keep the promise made to Americans across the country struggling with opioid abuse, and continue providing aid to communities in need,” the delegation said in their statement.
