Tourists spent a record $528,333,000 in Dutchess County in 2015, an increase from $508,991,000 during the prior year.
That spending generated $37.67 million in local tax revenue in 2015, according to Dutchess Tourism Inc., who received the figures from New York State. Those tax revenues were up from roughly $36 million in 2014. Visitor spending supported 9,994 jobs and was divided between lodging, recreation, food and beverages, retail and gas station outlets, and transportation.
The agency, funded by Dutchess County, added that tourism in the county has increased considerably since its inception in 1984 when visitor spending was $94 million and generated $950,000 in sales tax.
Dutchess County attractions include the nation”™s first Presidential Library & Museum for Franklin D. Roosevelt, along with the FDR Home, The Culinary Institute of America, the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, Dia:Beacon, the nation”™s largest contemporary art museum, and the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.
