Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a developer of fiber optic communication equipment, will lay off 77 employees in May when it closes its New York office at 2 Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River, the company notified state Labor Department officials this week.
The layoffs will take effect in the first two weeks of May.
A spokeswoman at Fujitsu Network Communications headquarters in Richardson, Texas, said the company is consolidating its hardware development functions “to enhance collaboration and realize cost efficiencies.” Some of the functional responsibilities and jobs currently at the Pearl River office will be relocated to the Texas facility and others will be shifted to Fujitsu”™s development facility in India, she said.
“This is part of an overall plan already in place to meet changing market demands,” said Susan Dianto at Fujitsu.
