The #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl, a mobile app competition for regional high school and college students coordinated by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, is accepting app ideas through Feb. 12.
The theme of this year’s competition, which will kick off with a series of design and development workshops Feb. 26 at the Westchester County Center, is developing apps that improve life for those 65 and older, including tracking health, scheduling doctor appointments and memory games.
Students compete in teams of two or more, and teams can be formed by students without school affiliation. The competition is open to high school and college students from across the tristate region. A panel of judges in the spring will score and rank the top apps before an award ceremony at Pace University’s Pleasantville campus. Winners are eligible for cash prizes, technology gear and regional paid internships.
Astorino said last year’s inaugural competition, which saw more than 150 students compete, was “phenomenal,” adding that he “can’t wait to see what they come up with this year.”
“We know Westchester has some of the brightest young minds, and we want to push them to even new heights,” Astorino said.
