As part of Bedford’s Jingle Pass Weekend, the Bedford Playhouse will host “Hard Hat Tours” at the Old Post Road theater on Dec. 5-6.
Visitors will be given a tour by playhouse board members and volunteers as well as get a look at the layout for the new theater, which is scheduled to begin renovations next month after closing its doors in January.
The tours will run Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Bedford Playhouse Board Chair Sarah Long said visitors will receive guided tours and will also have the opportunity to participate in a programming survey.
“We are so excited to be sharing this space with our many supporters,” she said.
In May, Alchemy Bedford LLC, the building’s owner, signed a lease for a 90-seat, three-theater cinema that would show independent, foreign, documentary and classic films. The formerly two-screen theater, which had operated in the town since 1947, closed after Ridgefield-based Bow Tie Cinemas took over the space from Clearview Cinemas.
The new nonprofit playhouse will combine elements of the golden age of cinema with modern technology, and will feature a cafe serving prepared foods, wine and beer. The renovations are expected to be supported through continuing donations and foundation membership fees.
The Friends of the Bedford Playhouse raised $2.5 million with more than 850 donations by its March 1 deadline to make the second theater possible. Officials previously said they hoped the theater would be complete and opened by the spring.
