Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.on Nov. 23 to showcase its new $4.9 million magnetic resonance imaging center.
The community hospital has installed the new MRI system in the hospital’s former main lobby.
Hospital officials said the new technology allows screenings for breast cancer and other oncological conditions and its wider diameter allows patients’ heads to remain outside of the machine’s magnet during many exams. The machine also features music and custom mood lighting to reduce patient anxiety.
The MRI center is one of two major construction projects the hospital began this year. A new main lobby and coffee shop are being built for the hospital’s 755 N. Broadway building. Hospital officials previously said both projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Phelps Hospital, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, has 238 beds and more than 1,700 employees. North Shore-LIJ Health System plans to change its name to Northwell Health in January.
