The city of Yonkers this month issued a building permit allowing Lowe’s Companies Inc. to open a location at Westchester’s Ridge Hill shopping center in Yonkers, making it the company’s first store in Westchester County, city spokeswoman Christina Gilmartin confirmed Wednesday morning.
According to Gilmartin, the permit was issued for parcel L, a roughly six-acre piece of land on the south side of the 1.3 million-square-foot shopping center adjacent to the Whole Foods Market. The one-year permit is good through October 2016. Gilmartin said the proposed size of the Lowe’s store was not immediately available.
The Mooresville, North Carolina-based home improvement and appliance company currently operates two stores in Rockland County; one in Orangeburg and one in Clarkstown.
Home Depot operates a store one mile away from Ridge Hill on the opposite side of Interstate 87 in Yonkers. Representatives from Brooklyn-based Forest City Ratner Companies, Ridge Hill’s developer, could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
Forest City said last month Ridge Hill filled 50,000 square feet of retail space during the first half of 2015. The center, with 975,000 square feet of retail space, saw nine retailers open during that stretch.
