More than $900,000 has been paid back to 916 employees for wages owed by their respective employers this year in the Mid-Hudson region, according to a release from the governor”™s office.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that the state is on track to disburse more money in 2015 than in 2014 to workers for proper minimum wage payments, overtime or fringe benefits. More than $18 million in disbursements statewide have been paid to almost 19,000 individuals during the first seven months of 2015. Last year $30.2 million was paid out by the end of 2014.
The reason for the increase is due to faster processing of cases by the state Department of Labor”™s Worker Protection Division.
“New York has zero tolerance for those who seek to deny an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work,” Â Cuomo said. “We will continue to aggressively protect workers from exploitation and crack down on wage theft in all of its forms.”
There are roughly 2,500 cases still being investigated.
