The second annual Corporate FunRun Westchester 5K, an after-work running/walking fundraiser held this month, raised more than $30,000 to benefit Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla.
Nearly 1,300 individual runners and 72 companies from the regional business community participated in the race, which was held the evening of July 16 at SUNY Purchase and coined “The Summer’s Best Office Party.”
“The Corporate FunRun Westchester was a tremendous success,” said Bruce Pienkny, president of Corporate FunRun. “We were thrilled to have so many local companies and participants join us in this unique fitness-based team building and fundraising event. We hope that the FunRun continues to grow year after year so we can continue to support deserving organizations like Blythedale Children’s Hospital.”
Sponsors of the event were the Westchester County Business Journal, Dannon, ProClinix Physical Therapy, Pure Insurance, Evian, O’Connor Davies, Co-Communications, New York Running Co., The Westchester Bank, LIU Hudson, Club Fit, White Plains Hospital, Wilson Elser and Clarfeld Financial Advisors.
Dr. Stuart Weitzman and Bedford Hills Family Chiropractic won the all-male, all-female and mixed-team awards, which went to the top team racers. The 2015 FunRun Westchester 5K attracted 500 more participants and nearly 30 more teams than its inaugural run in 2014.
Founded in 2014, Corporate FunRun 5K hosts races in Westchester and Fairfield counties, Long Island, northern New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Delaware. The organization was founded as a workplace fitness event to engage employees, encourage team building and promote health and fitness within companies.
