Emergency Medical Associates, the longtime provider of emergency department management services at Westchester Medical Center, on Thursday will begin managing the emergency department at WMC”™s MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Westchester Medical Center last year acquired the 243-bed former St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie in a bankruptcy proceeding. Its 35-bed emergency department treats approximately 30,000 patients yearly, according to a hospital spokesman.
“EMA has been providing the highest quality emergency medical care at Westchester Medical Center for 10 years, so it was a natural choice to continue that relationship,” said MidHudson Regional Hospital Executive Director Paul Hochenberg in the announcement.
EMA replaces the community hospital”™s previous emergency room contractor, TeamHealth. The hospital spokesman said no MidHudson staff will be laid off with the new contract and staffing levels in the emergency department will remain the same.
Dr. Ivan T. Miller has been named regional director heading EMA operations at both MidHudson Regional Hospital and Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Mark Papish will serve as associate medical director of emergency medicine at the Poughkeepsie hospital and local physician leader for the emergency department.
A physician-led medical practice based in Parsippany, N.J., Emergency Medical Associates also manages emergency services in the Hudson Valley region at Montefiore New Rochelle, NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, Nyack Hospital, HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus in Kingston and Ellenville Regional Hospital in Ulster County, according to its website.
