Danbury industrial gases company Praxair Inc. will build a new air separation unit to support its Detroit area pipeline system.
No price tag was announced.
The company cited reasons including increased demand for industrial gases from regional customers in Michigan and Ohio as well as rare gas customers worldwide.
The project will include the installation of what the company termed “state-of-the-art operating equipment and systems.” A statement from Praxair said it coincides with other renewals of “multiple existing pipeline customer agreements” for the company.
The new 1,650-tons-per-day plant will begin operations in 2017 and supply existing pipeline customers with improved efficiency and continued reliability, according to Praxair. The plant will also produce additional liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon and rare gases for use by hospitals, food processors and industrial companies supplying the automobile industry.
