VNA of Hudson Valley to hold annual awards

VNA of Hudson Valley will hold its 21st annual awards presentation May 14 at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle.

The event celebrates individuals or organizations that have made a difference in home health care and recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the health of the community.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour.

VNA of Hudson Valley will honor four members of the community. The Dana Reeve Caregiver Award will be given to Nora Davis Day, Hasna Muhammad and Guy Davis, the children of Ruby Dee, playwright, screenwriter, activist, poet and journalist who died in 2014.

The Ellen Wood Healthcare Award will be given to Dr. Scott D. Hayworth, president and CEO of Mount Kisco Medical Group. The 2015 Community Service Award will be presented to members of the New Rochelle Garden Club for the commitment of its members to the VNA’s patients. Janet Ready, president of University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro and senior vice president of Princeton HealthCare System, and longtime member of the VNA of Hudson Valley board of directors, will receive the 2015 VNA of Hudson Valley Award of Merit.

Janine Rose, news director and anchor for News 12 Westchester, will once again host the event and present the awards.

”˜Power of the Purse”™

Girls Inc. Westchester, an affiliate of Girls Inc., a national organization to inspire girls, held its fourth annual “Power of the Purse” awards dinner April 16 at the Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle. Honorees, referred to as “Purse-o-nalities,” included Sara Badler, senior vice president, deputy general counsel and chief investment council, New York Life Insurance Co.; Lucy Chan, vice president, growth markets and global services business development, IBM; and Geri Pell, CEO, Pell Wealth Partners.

Wallace joins Houlihan & O”™Malley

Bronxville-based Houlihan & O”™Malley welcomed Jason Wallace, a licensed real estate agent, to the firm”™s commercial sales group. Prior to joining, Wallace served as president and CEO of Hospitality Concepts Restaurant Consulting, where he worked with architectural and interior design firms on more than 20 restaurant construction projects. A U.S. Navy veteran and alumnus of the Culinary Institute of America, Wallace began his food service career as a sous chef apprentice in La Rochelle, France.

ArtsWestchester announces $42,000 in grants

White Plains-based ArtsWestchester announced more than $42,000 in grants awarded to 32 artists and organizations that support arts projects throughout Westchester County. Funded projects, announced at a grant ceremony, include performing and visual art, youth writing workshops, mutual projects, open studio weekends, free theater experiences and concerts.

Two individual artists received Arts Alive Artist Grants this year, including Cornell Carelock, who is bringing original hip-hop music to community sites and Patrick McNeil, who is merging words and images inspired by children”™s literature into a mural for the Hastings-on-Hudson Public Library.

Health Quest adds to its staff

LaGrangeville based-Health Quest Urgent Care welcomed Yelena Globina as director of the occupational medicine program. The program, which is available seven days a week, offers services including wound and laceration care and repair, sprain treatment, digital X-rays and evaluation of potentially toxic exposure.

Globina is board-certified in occupational and environmental medicine and general preventive medicine/public health. She holds a bachelor”™s from Barnard College and a medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook.

Jones, Jordan and Koster join Eckert Seamans

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC, a law firm with an office in White Plains, has appointed Michael R. Jones, Afiya M. Jordan and Kelly Robreno Koster as new associates. Jones focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, previously serving as a volunteer assistant attorney general in the New York attorney general”™s office. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and his bachelor”™s in mechanical engineering from SUNY.

Jordan started her career in the general litigation and products liability practices of several international law firms. She received her J.D. and bachelor”™s from Columbia University.

Koster focuses her practice on complex commercial, product liability and labor and employment litigation. She received her J.D. from American University ”“ Washington College of Law and her bachelor”™s from Cornell University.

White Plains brings marchers of all ages

Approximately 4,000 residents joined together to participate in the 2015 March for Babies to benefit the March of Dimes. Families and corporate teams met at Saxon Woods Pool to raise more than $800,000 to support the healthy birth of babies. Money raised by the event funds research, education and local community grants for programs. For more information, visit marchforbabies.org.

American Cancer Society honors ENT & Allergy Associates

The American Cancer Society is honoring White Plains-based ENT & Allergy Associates LLP at the annual Diamond Gala, June 19 at the Schiff Family Great Hall in the Bronx Zoo. The evening features cocktails, food, music, a silent auction and a mission auction to raise funds for the Hope Lodge Network, which provides free lodging for cancer patients receiving treatment away from home. ENT & Allergy Associates LLP is being presented with the Society”™s Beacon of Hope Award, which is annually presented to an individual or business in Westchester County who has demonstrating a commitment to the fight against cancer.

Keane & Beane welcomes Greenberg

White Plains-based Keane & Beane, a law firm, appointed Michael J. Greenberg as an associate in the firm”™s trusts and estates and elder law practices. Greenberg”™s practice focuses on estate and tax planning and administration, elder care and disability planning, guardianship, Medicaid planning, surrogate”™s court litigation and special needs planning.

Greenberg continues to serve as a second lieutenant and judge advocate in the New York Guard, where he provides free legal service for soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, coastguardsmen and their families.

United Way of Dutchess-Orange celebrates campaign

The United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region celebrated its 2014 campaign for the common good with the “Celebration of Service” awards event at Anthony”™s Pier 9 in New Windsor. More than 300 people attended the event, which honored volunteers, donors, community partners and sponsors as well as long time volunteer and community leader Steven V. Lant, the recipient of the leadership award. Lant, who retired in October 2014 as CEO of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., served on the Dutchess County board of the United Way from 1997-2008, as its chairman from 2003-2005, as interim leader in 2004 and as interim president and CEO from November 2014 to March 2015.

MKCC celebrates 50 years

The Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce (MKCC) is celebrating 50 years of supporting business growth with an anticipated 150 business owners, professionals and residents, May 13, 6:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn of Mount Kisco, 1 Holiday Drive, Mount Kisco.

Frank Yozzo of Mount Kisco, owner and operator of Four Seasons Flower Shop, is being named the 2015 Citizen of the Year. He is being recognized for his desire to give back to the community.
