Blue Hill at Stone Barns, the partner restaurant of the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, received the James Beard Foundation outstanding restaurant award Monday night at the 25th annual James Beard Foundation Awards at Chicago’s Civic Opera House.
The awards honor the top chefs, restaurants, journalists and other figures in the culinary industry.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns, which classifies itself as an elegant restaurant, does not feature a conventional menu. Diners are instead served a “grazing, rooting, pecking” menu that utilizes local ingredients as well as the produce and crops grown on-site at the farm.
The restaurant opened in 2004 within the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, a nonprofit farm and educational center. The farm and restaurant are on a portion of the former Rockefeller Estate.
Blue Hill executive chef and co-owner Dan Barber also owns the Blue Hill restaurant in Greenwich Village, which previously received the “Best New Restaurant” award from the James Beard Foundation.
The James Beard Foundation, based in New York, is a nonprofit organization that hosts awards for those throughout the culinary industry and promotes the culinary arts through scholarships and other educational opportunities.
