Frontier Communications Corp., a Stamford-based telecommunications company, announced on Tuesday that Maggie Wilderotter will step down as CEO on April 3.

Wilderotter will transition to a role as executive chairwoman of Frontier”™s board of directors and will be replaced by Daniel J. McCarthy, Frontier’s president and chief operating officer. McCarthy will serve as president and CEO following the transition.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead Frontier at this exciting moment in our history, and thank Maggie for her guidance and mentorship,” McCarthy said in a press release announcing the leadership change. “I look forward to working with her, the board and the rest of the leadership team as we continue to enhance our competitive position in the markets we serve, execute our strategic plan and deliver strong results benefiting our shareholders, customers and employees.”
McCarthy has served as Frontier”™s president and chief operating officer since April 2012 and has been with the company since 1990. He has served as a member of the board of directors since May. McCarthy led the team negotiating the terms of Frontier”™s agreement to acquire Verizon”™s wireline voice, broadband and video operations in California, Florida and Texas for $10.54 billion.
Wilderotter joined the company in 2004 as president and CEO and a member of the board of directors. She was named chairwoman and CEO in 2006.
