To complement its new undergraduate degree in exercise science, Mercy College will open a state-of-the-art exercise equipment lab April 10 at its Dobbs Ferry campus.
Astrid Mel, head of the school’s program, said the new suite will offer students hands-on experience by providing access to the latest equipment in exercise and rehabilitation.
With the recent national focus on health and wellness, Mercy officials say there’s “no better time” to pursue a job within the growing industry. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the number of jobs related to fitness is expected to grow 29 percent from 2008 to 2018.
“The exercise science program is expanding at a rapid pace, striving to meet the growing demands for qualified graduates in the field,” Mel said in a release. “The suite is a highly interactive environment where students get an opportunity to apply key concepts and gain valuable experience in a real-life setting.”
