United Technologies Corp., the parent company to Stratford-based Sikorsky, recently announced plans to invest up to $500 million on the upgrade and expansion of its aerospace research, development and manufacturing facilities over the next five years.
The biggest investments will include a new 425,000-square-foot global headquarters and engineering building for UTC’s Pratt & Whitney office in East Hartford and major capital investments in its factory operations in Middletown and East Hartford.
The construction project, which will begin this year and continue through 2018, also aims to:

”¢ Build new engineering labs and a 12,000-square-foot global customer training center
”¢ Make major capital investments at its Sikorsky facility by upgrading labs and simulators
UTC said its goal is to attract and retain the best engineering talent and Connecticut’s next generation of innovators, especially engineering and science graduates who might be looking for job opportunities in the near future, according to a press release.
The company also expects to invest up to $4 billion in research and other capital expenditures in the state.
