The federal Economic Development Agency will assist the Hudson Valley Regional Council”™s work on its annual comprehensive economic development strategic plan with a $60,000 grant.
The EDA award was announced by U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, Putnam County Democrat, and U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, Democrat from Harrison.
Formed in 1977, the Newburgh-based regional council works with municipalities and private organizations to assist with applications for federal funding and grants for economically distressed communities. The council is comprised of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties and the cities of Kingston, Middletown, Mount Vernon, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and Yonkers.
“Through this strategic partnership with the Hudson Valley Regional Council, we can leverage private investments to create jobs and spur much-needed economic growth in the Hudson Valley,” Maloney said in the announcement.
Lowey called the EDA funding “an important investment in our region”™s economic future” that will aid the council”™s partnership with public and private sector stakeholders “to create a long-term, full-throated plan for creating jobs and boosting our economy.”
