The first-ever seasonal closure for lobstering on the Long Island Sound took effect Sunday.
As required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, Connecticut lobstermen must remove their trap from the water until Nov. 28 to help aid repopulation efforts.
According to reports from The Day, lobster fishery has been a declining industry for the past 15 years as warmer global temperatures put several stresses on the population.
The temporary closure is designed to reduce the total lobster harvest by 10 percent. However news reports show local fisherman question whether the closure will make any difference.
