If you ferment it, they will come.
That”™s the hope of Hudson Valley Wine Market, the first wine boutique and upcoming e-commerce site to specialize in Hudson Valley wines.
The grand opening is Saturday, May 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., 119 Main Street, Gardiner.
Local wineries will offer complimentary tastings.
Vintners will include Millbrook Vineyards & Winery, Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery and Whitecliff Vineyard. There will also be tastings of other wines, free culinary specialties and special guests. A portion of sales from the event will benefit Scenic Hudson.
“An increasing number of critically acclaimed and award-winning wines are produced here,” said Perry Goldschein, Hudson Valley Wine Market owner and a former lawyer and consultant. “The region is up to over 40 wineries, which have continued to improve as the region grows steadily over time.”
New York state bills itself as the third-largest producer of wine, after California and Washington. New York reported more than 5 million tourists visit New York wineries annually.
“Accomplishments like Best White at the San Francisco International Wine Competition ”“ Whitecliff”™s honor ”“ can”™t be overestimated any more than Wine Enthusiast magazine”™s tasting and rating of 20 Hudson Valley wines in the 84- to 89-point range in 2012,” Goldschein said.
“Many if not most wine drinkers in the New York metro area, including here in the Hudson Valley, still aren”™t aware of these kinds of developments, and I hope to help change that.”
Also in his new shop, he said, “We will continue to offer a handpicked selection of great wines from regions around the world to customers.”
