An office space downsizing and program relocations at the Westchester County Department of Health will save the county about $2 million in rent over the next five years, said County Executive Robert P. Astorino.
As of Nov. 1, the county health department will reduce its leased space in New Rochelle by 50 percent when it moves to a single floor and occupies 28,309 square feet of office space at 145 Huguenot St., where it has leased two floors since 1997. The eight-story, 280,000-square-foot class-A building is owned by GHP Office Realty in Harrison.
County officials said the health department’s divisions of community health, disease control, children with special needs and public health information and communications will remain at 145 Huguenot St. The environmental health division has moved its main office to a county-owned building at 25 Moore Ave. in Mount Kisco, but will maintain a presence in New Rochelle. Additional environmental health staff will work from a county-owned office building at 750 Washington St. in Peekskill.
Westchester County Commissioner of Health Sherlita Amler will have offices in Mount Kisco and New Rochelle.
Business owners who want to apply for a health department permit, inquire about a violation notice, pay a fine or seek advice about health department requirements for their facilities should visit either the Mount Kisco or Peekskill office, depending on where their business is located, instead of New Rochelle. The health department’s administrative division moved earlier this summer to 10 County Center Road in White Plains.
With the relocations, the department will reduce its total leased space by approximately 24,000 square feet, according to county officials. The reduction includes vacated space being leased at 118 N. Bedford Road in Mount Kisco.
