Montefiore Medical Center plans to relocate about 850 business and administrative jobs from its corporate offices in Yonkers to the Kraft Foods beverages research and development center in Tarrytown in the first quarter of 2013, after closing on its deal to purchase the 300,000-square-foot facility on South Broadway.
Montefiore officials said the hospital agreed to lease back half of the acquired space to Kraft, saving 200 jobs in Tarrytown. Kraft officials earlier this year said about 140 research and development employees would remain at the 555 S. Broadway facility as it relocated its beverages business unit to company headquarters in suburban Chicago.
Montefiore officials in the Bronx said additional jobs will be created in Yonkers at the teaching hospital’s existing offices in the South Westchester Executive Park, where it plans to expand its information technology operations.
The purchase price in Tarrytown was not disclosed. Built in the 1950s, the Kraft property overlooks the Hudson River and includes three buildings and an approximately 700-space parking area.
Montefiore spokeswoman Helene Guss said no medical services will be offered at the Tarrytown location. Montefiore Medical Group operates ambulatory care centers in Yonkers, Larchmont, Eastchester and Scarsdale.
Montefiore Medical Center is the university hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.
