World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. quietly settled a decade-old dispute over its former WWF moniker with WWF-World Wide Fund for Nature, which has long used the same initials under its iconic panda bear logo.
Stamford-based WWE said the settlement was not material to its financial results. The company had an $11.9 million profit in the second quarter as revenue fell slightly from a year earlier to below $142 million.
The Switzerland-based World Wide Fund for Nature works to save endangered species. In 2000, it sued WWE predecessor company World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. in the United Kingdom. The company subsequently launched a “get the F out” marketing campaign, and in May 2002 formally announced its new WWE identify at an episode of Monday Night Raw taped in Hartford.
