Norwalk based Southern Air Holdings has added twin-engine freight planes to its fleet.
Daniel McHugh, CEO of Southern said the addition of the two Boeing 777 Freighters represents the ongoing expansion of the company”™s position as a leading cargo carrier. The company now will have 19 planes in its fleet.
The 777s, have payload capacity of more than 100 metric tons and more than 650 cubic meters. McHugh said the planes translate into fewer stops, shorter cargo delivery times and lower cargo handling costs for customers.
“Our enhanced fleet will give us the ability to react even more quickly to our customers”™ needs,” he said.
Thai Airways International has also entered into a block space agreement with Southern Air to utilize the full capacity of the two new planes.
Southern Air is a portfolio company of Oak Hill Capital Partners, a private equity firm in Stamford.
