County nonprofits have until March 31 to apply for one of four $30,000 nutrition grants being offered by Greenburgh-based Dannon Company Inc.
Applications for the fifth-annual Dannon Next Generation Nutrition Grants are available at dannon.com.?Dannon reported it will award grants of $30,000 “to four nonprofits for programs that support childhood nutrition education and promote healthy eating habits among children within each of the four communities where a Dannon facility is located.” Besides Westchester County, those sites include Salt Lake City; Tarrant County, Texas; and Shelby, Mercer, Darke and Auglaize counties in Ohio.
Â
Dannon established the Next Generation grant program in 2006 to promote childhood nutrition education. Each organization that receives a grant creates a program that helps children develop life-long habits for good nutrition and exercise.
Dannon has to date awarded more than $300,000 in grants through the program.?To qualify for funding, organizations must be designated as 501(c)(3) nonprofits and must already be engaged in a nutrition education program for children up to age 18, or be able to launch such an initiative in 2010.
