Forty years after Broadway Joe Namath shaved off his mustache to sell Remington razors, Stamford-based Philips Norelco has recruited football legend Mike Ditka toward the same end.
Ditka will act as a host for the shaver brand”™s “Ultimate Football Weekend.”
“I’m excited to join the Philips Norelco team and help host,” said Ditka, a Hall of Fame player and coach mostly associated with the Chicago Bears. “Football is about more than just following a favorite team season after season. It’s about knowing the record-breaking stats, the little-known facts about the legends and the history-making plays that truly make football one of America’s favorite traditions.”
Ditka will act as a judge in testing Norelco customer”™s football trivia knowledge.
“We want to engage our consumers with an environment they enjoy, football,” said Jacopo D’Alessandris, vice-president of marketing North America, Philips Consumer Lifestyle.
The events, which started in mid-November and last through January, will lead up to the Super Bowl in February. The promotion will be emceed by sports radio host Mike Greenberg of ESPN’s “Mike & Mike in the Morning.”
