W.R. Berkley Corp. promoted W. Robert Berkley Jr. to president and chief operating officer, reporting to CEO William Berkley, his father.
The publicly traded company is based in Greenwich and sells a range of specialty insurance policies. As of April, William Berkley controlled 17 percent of the company”™s stock.
After working as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch, Robert Berkley joined W.R. Berkley in 1997. In 2005, he was promoted to executive vice president, responsible for the company”™s domestic insurance sales and field operations. With his new title, he adds oversight for W.R. Berkley”™s international operations and reinsurance division.
Robert Berkley made $3.9 million last year.
He is also currently chairman of NCCI Holdings Inc., an industry-supported organization that manages the nation”™s largest database of workers”™ compensation insurance information.
