The Camp LaGuardia Committee, established by Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana, announced it is actively seeking proposals for the former Camp LaGuardia facility. Home to 1,100 homeless men from New York City for more than 40 years, it was purchased by Orange County earlier this year for $8.5 million. Now, the county plans to market the property to maximize its potential.

“We believe that this parcel must provide sound and sensible development that benefits the residents of Orange County,” Diana said. “We believe these proposals should expand employment opportunities, tax rateables and respect our environmental polices.”
Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the newly named Central Orange Development Area are available on the county Web site at www.orangecountygov.com, or through the county Office of Real Property: (845) 291-2491.
Â
The development area is centrally located within the towns of Chester, Blooming Grove and a portion of the village of Chester. It consists of approximately 258 acres with assorted structures and is easily accessible from state Route 17, the future Interstate 86.
Â
To date, some of the preliminary discussions for the property have produced suggestions ranging from mixed use, agribusiness, work force and senior housing and high-tech manufacturing.
