Webster banks on ATMs in Walgreen’s, drugstores

Laying the rails for a potential expansion into the Boston market, Webster Financial Corp. will place its Webster Bank logo on ATMs in Walgreen”™s pharmacies, as well as drugstores in eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island.

It is the first time the Waterbury, Conn.-based company has inked such an ATM partnership, a spokesman said.

Webster Bank indicated the move could precede the establishment of branches in the Boston market. The company operates several branches in southeastern Massachusetts, none closer than 30 miles to Boston.

Webster Bank will not charge withdrawal fees to customers using a Webster ATM card at Walgreen”™s.
