A family-owned Stamford development company has converted its entire operations fleet in Fairfield County and New York”™s Westchester County to hybrid-fuel vehicles.
Anthony E. Malkin, president of his family”™s W&M Properties, said the company has put 27 Ford Escape Hybrids in use by W&M Construction Corp. and W&M Properties”™ management and cleaning and leasing and marketing divisions. The conversion is part of the company”™s commitment to make its business practices more sustainable while improving the environment.Â
“The vehicles are far more fuel-efficient and cost-effective and much better suited to their daily tasks. Just because you are in construction doesn”™t mean you need to drive a pick-up truck,” said Malkin, who leads his family”™s real estate and investment business. Powered by gasoline and electricity, the U.S.-built hybrids will be driven approximately 350,000 miles in their first year of use and burn less than half of the gasoline of the vehicles they replaced, he said.
The Malkin family has extensive commercial and residential real estate operations throughout the U.S. The company”™s Fairfield County commercial portfolio includes the Metro Center and First Stamford Place in Stamford; Merrittview in Norwalk and two retail blocks, 66-99 Main St. and 103-107 Main St., in Westport.
