Anheuser-Busch InBev is acquiring full control of Mexico”™s Grupo Modelo S.A.B. and its Corona beer brands in a $20.1 billion deal, with Constellation Brands Inc. acquiring Grupo Modelo”™s 50 percent stake in Crown Imports in a related transaction.
InBev previously had its U.S. headquarters in Norwalk before its 2008 merger with Anheuser-Busch, with the combined company moving the office to Buffalo, N.Y.
Norwalk is the U.S. headquarters for Diageo, whose beer brands include Guinness, Red Stripe and Kilkenny.
Anheuser-Busch InBev”™s Bud Light and Budweiser are the two best-selling beers in the United States, according to SymphonyIRI, followed by Coors Light and Miller Lite, which are sold by Millercoors Brewing.
Crown Imports ranks sixth with Corona Extra, sandwiched between Anheuser-Busch InBev”™s Natural Light and Busch Light. The top 10 is rounded out by Busch, Heineken USA, which has its U.S. headquarters in White Plains, N.Y., and Michelob Ultra Light from Anheuser-Busch InBev.
Greenwich-based Metropoulos & Co. owns Pabst Brewing Co., whose Pabst Blue Ribbon is ranked 18th in U.S. sales.
