This week”™s Travelers Championship found itself with another golf major champion in its field, after Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk let the U.S. Open slip from their grasp in the final holes Sunday to hand Webb Simpson the win.
Simpson is scheduled to play the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, which features a $6 million purse with the winner taking home $1.1 million in spoils. Live coverage begins on the Golf Channel at 3.pm. Thursday and Friday and on CBS at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. On Wednesday, both WFAN”™s Mike”™s On with Mike Francesa and WEEI”™s Dennis and Callahan Morning Show are scheduled to broadcast their radio programs live from TPC River Highlands.
The past two Masters Tournament champions, Bubba Watson and Charl Schwartzel, are in the Travelers field, as well as:
Ӣ Keegan Bradley, 2011 PGA Championship winner,
Ӣ Padraig Harrington, two-time British Open champion and winner of the PGA Championship in 2008,
Ӣ Zach Johnson, 2007 Masters champion, and
Ӣ Vijay Singh, 2000 Masters champion.
Last year”™s Travelers champion Fredrik Jacobson tied for 15th at last week”™s U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Travelers events kicked off Monday with a 9 a.m. opening ceremony and the Aetna pro-am tournament, scheduled for Monday afternoon. Wilton-based Golf Digest hosts a junior pro-am Tuesday.
