Westport businessman Steve Obsitnik is the Connecticut Republican Party”™s choice to oppose U.S. Rep. Jim Himes this fall, with Obsitnik winning 72.9 percent of the vote at the state convention.
Runner up Chris Meek of Stamford secured sufficient votes to qualify for an August primary. On his website and social media sites Friday afternoon, Meek did not immediately state whether he would stay in the race.
Obsitnik is the former CEO of Rochester, N.Y.-based Quintel, a wireless infrastructure company. Today he teaches entrepreneurship at the Jack Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Obsitnik is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served five years in the U.S. Navy, primarily on the nuclear attack submarine U.S.S. Ray. He grew up in Stamford. Obsitnik”™s wife Suzanne Tager is a management consultant with Bain & Co.
