GREENWICH — Public officials will honor longtime public servant and affordable housing advocate Sam Romeo with a street naming this weekend.
The naming of the street at Armstrong Court will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event will pay tribute to Romeo’s decades of commitment to the residents of Greenwich, his advocacy for affordable housing, and his dedication to public service. Friends, family, colleagues, and community members are invited to attend and share in the celebration of his legacy.
“Sam Romeo’s leadership and heart have left an indelible mark on our community,” said Anthony Johnson, CEO and executive director, Greenwich Communities. “Armstrong Court stands as a testament to his vision for accessible and dignified housing for Greenwich residents. Armstrong Court now anchors and contributes to the beauty of this historic neighborhood. It’s fitting that we gather here to honor him.”
In addition to his duties as chairman of Greenwich Communities (formerly the Greenwich Housing Authority), Romeo has been a leader on the Representative Town Meeting and Republican Town Committee for more than 20 years, has served as an ombudsman for the Connecticut Department of Social Services, is chairman of the Eastern Sector CAPP Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors for Greenwich Emergency Medical Services. He has also owned and operated his own business – Command Packaging Supply Products – for the past 30 years.
Romeo, whose family dates back more than a century in Greenwich, is a lifelong resident of the town. He has been married to his wife, Mary, for 43 years, and is the father of 5 children and 8 grandchildren.
The Street Dedication Ceremony will feature remarks from local leaders, a commemorative unveiling, and a reception for attendees to connect and reflect on Sam’s impact. The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to join in remembering and celebrating his life’s work.
