STAMFORD – The internet, cable TV, and phone provider Spectrum has issued a $40,000 grant to The Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut (CAAWC) through its Community Center Assist to further enhance their workforce development program.
This initiative is part of Spectrum’s $30 million philanthropic commitment to revitalize community centers and invest in job training programs. in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods. Its work with the community agency started on Nov. 13, 2021, with Spectrum employees and community volunteers making repairs and other physical improvements to CAAWC facilities. Spectrum also donated 25 new Chromebooks for a new technology room to support the organization’s workforce development and technology program.
“The additional $40,000 grant from Spectrum will provide crucial support to our workforce development program, enabling us to expand our services and reach even more individuals in need,” said Michelle H. James, executive director of CAAWC. “With this funding, we can offer more comprehensive job training and resources, ultimately helping our community members secure stable employment and improve their quality of life.”
An executive with Spectrum’s parent company, Charter Communications, described his company’s community work as essential to the local communities it serves.
“The long-term partnership we created with The Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut is making a real difference in the lives of local residents in their workforce development program by giving them the skills, tools and updated facilities they need to improve their economic situation,” said Rahman Khan, group vice president for community impact for Charter Communications.
“Already thousands of people around the country have participated in SCCA in the neighborhoods we serve, as we continue to work with The Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut to provide essential job training in a safe and revitalized space.”
The agency supports more than 1,500 people at its Stamford location. Through its partnership with CAAWC, it has provided 355 people with job training, assisted 65 people with credentials, and enabled 92 people to attain meaningful employment.
Over its 5-year commitment, Spectrum has given $190,000 in grants and more than $40,000 in revitalization and in-kind support.
