People”™s United awards $2.4 million
The community foundation for People”™s United Financial Inc. in 2011 awarded $470,000 to nonprofits in Bridgeport where it is based, along with another $270,000 to other organizations in Fairfield County.
The grants were part of $2.3 million doled out by the People”™s United Community Foundation in the past year, of more than $10 million since its launch in 2007.

MedAdherence attracts investors
Connecticut Innovations invested $150,000 in MedAdherence L.L.C., with the Norwalk-based startup securing matching funds from private investors.
Founded by Jonanthan Katz, MedAdherence is developing software to help doctors nudge patients with diabetes, heart disease and other ailments to adhere to their prescribed plan of care, pinging them via smartphones and other platforms.

FactSet continues growth
FactSet Research Systems added 200 employees this past fall, pushing its headcount to 5,450 workers in all.
The Norwalk-based company provides data feeds and research on financial markets. In the fiscal first quarter ending Nov. 30, FactSet revenue was up 13 percent from a year ago to $196 million and FactSet earned $45.5 million.
“When we hire somebody new into FactSet, and it really doesn”™t matter what area you”™re hiring them into, I think we probably at least have a period of six months of investment in every employee we make before we get a reasonable return on our investment,” said Peter Walsh, chief operating officer of FactSet, in a December conference call. “And from that point on it”™s certainly one of mutual benefit. Their careers are off to the races and the value they produce for FactSet is growing every day.”
Darien, Fairfield banks pass CRA exams
Bank of Fairfield and Darien-Rowayton Bank achieved satisfactory ratings on their community reinvestment records, the second highest grade of four used by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Bank of Fairfield is owned by BNC Financial Group Inc., which also owns Bank of New Canaan and Stamford First Bank.
Lockheed sign on for SBIR
Lockheed Martin Corp. became the third company to sign up for a Connecticut program under which government contractors review applications by state companies for funding under the federal Small Business Innovation Research program.
Other participants include United Technologies Corp., via its Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and Pratt & Whitney divisions, and Boeing Co.
