Five businesses in the Hudson Valley recently filed require notices with the New York State Department of Labor that they will be closing facilities in the Hudson Valley and laying off employees. A total of 429 people will be affected.
The Beverage Works NY, which is a distributor of the Red Bull energy drink, says that all 25 people employed at its site at 1 Highland Industrial Park Dr. in Peekskill are being laid off. The layoffs are expected to be completed by June 10. The move appears to be part of larger layoffs by The Beverage Works NY of employees following a move by Red Bull to end its relationship with the company. The Beverage Works NY filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in New Jersey against Red Bull North America Inc. alleging a breach of contract.
Shop-Rite Supermarkets, Inc., has filed notice that it is laying off all 61 workers at its supermarket in Ellenville in Ulster County located at 1 ShopRite Blvd. ShopRite said that it will no longer have a lease for the location and will be closing by Aug. 31.
Amscan Inc., which advertises itself as “the party people,” plans to start laying off the 117 workers at its facility at 108 NY-17K in Newburgh beginning August 30 with all layoffs to be competed by Nov. 29. Amscan says that economic reasons are to blame for it closing its facility in Orange County. The company says it offers a wide variety of products for occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, weddings, anniversaries and seasonal holidays. It says its products are available at more than 40,000 retail locations in 100 countries.
Genpak LLC, which manufactures food packaging, plans to lay off all 138 workers at its facility at 26 Republic Plaza in Middletown in Orange County. The company says layoffs will begin Aug. 27 and will be completed by Dec. 21. It says the layoffs are necessary for economic reasons.
Frito-Lay Inc., which produces PopCorners chips at its factory at 79 Industrial Place in Middletown, says that 88 of the 305 employees at the plant will be laid off starting Aug. 30 and ending Sept 13. It says that the layoffs are for economic reasons.
