The Royal Regency Hotel, a family-owned boutique establishment in Yonkers that’s celebrating its 30th anniversary, likes to say that its defining quality is filoxenia, Greek for hospitality.
“We’ve faced numerous challenges over the years, from navigating through the Covid-19 pandemic to staying abreast of technological advancements,” said co-owner Maria Paxos-Pampafikos. “Our commitment to guest satisfaction has remained unwavering, along with becoming a more sustainable-focused business.”
Toward that end, the 93-room hotel – 88 guest rooms and five suites – is implementing various measures to conserve resources and reduce energy consumption. It has switched to providing full housekeeping services every third day or upon request, reducing laundry and saving water and energy. Guests are encouraged to reuse towels through informative cards in rooms, contributing to water and energy conservation.
LED lighting has been installed across the property to curb power consumption, while an air curtain at the main entrance stabilizes lobby temperature, conserving power. Motion sensors replace light switches in many areas, cutting down on energy waste, and digital thermostats in common areas and ballrooms maintain consistent, comfortable temperatures, saving energy.
Meanwhile, the Eden monitoring system in guest rooms’ HVAC units allows for temperature regulation, resulting in significant energy savings and increased guest satisfaction.
Such eco-friendly improvements underscore the hotel’s commitment to the community. The Royal Regency engages with its neighbors through holiday brunches and other events. The hotel is also a member of the Westchester Hotel Association and an advocate for Westchester County travel and tourism.
Looking ahead, Paxos-Pampafikos said the hotel – which had an occupancy rate of 74% in 2023, peaking in September and October – remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining its heritage while exploring growth opportunities.
