A former nursery property in the town of Greenburgh could be transformed as the site of an indoor sports dome in the hands of a development team whose project proposal is being considered by town officials.
Game On 365 L.L.C., a new Tarrytown-based player on Westchester”™s redevelopment turf, has proposed to build a 94,000-square-foot air structure and attached 15,000-square-foot clubhouse at 715 Dobbs Ferry Road, the former Frank”™s Nursery property acquired by the town in a foreclosure proceeding. The Westchester Field House, as the domed facility has been named, would provide year-round use of four turf playing fields and two hard court surfaces encircled by a rubberized running track. An outdoor soccer field also would be built on the former nursery grounds.
The recreational complex would employ 30 to 40 full-time and part-time workers. It will offer professional training and sports instruction for children and adults, recreational programs and services and health and wellness programs.
Robert F. Gould, CEO of Game On 365, said the project can be completed in one year and a grand opening is planned for Dec. 1, 2012.
The developer would lease the property from the town for 15 years. Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said monthly rent would be based on an annual amount of $260,000 with annual increases.
Co-owners of the development company include members of Soccer Coliseum, a management company that operates two successful sports facilities in Bergen County, N.J.
Arizon Structures, based in St. Louis, Mo., would build the dome.
“I think this concept could be exciting,” Feiner said in an email. “We”™re adding recreation to the town at no cost to the taxpayers.” He said the town board aims to make a final decision on the proposal before the end of this year.
