New York Attorney General Letitia James warned state residents to be aware of a data breach at a medical transcription company Perry Johnson & Associates.
According to James’ office, the company experienced a data breach in May that impacted nearly nine million patients nationwide, including approximately four million New Yorkers. Northwell Health and Crouse Health were among the medical centers impacted by the data breach.
While most individuals whose data was impacted were notified. James advised the affected residents to be cognizant over the potential for identity theft and impersonation.
“I urge all New Yorkers affected by this data breach to stay alert and take these important steps to protect themselves,” said James. “Bad actors can use the stolen information to impersonate individuals or cause financial harm. Identity theft is a serious issue, and my office will continue to take action to keep New Yorkers safe.”
