Gaza hospital: Israeli troops were at the main hospital in Gaza today where an estimated 650 patients were being treated even though the hospital does not have power because it ran out of fuel for generators. About 30 patients are reported to have died over the weekend. The Israelis delivered 300 liters of fuel to the hospital but Hamas refused to allow it to be brought to the generators. The Israeli military is closing in on hospitals alleging that Hamas his using them as terrorist headquarters.
U.S. attacks Syria targets: The U.S. has staged a third attack on targets in Syria being used by militants associated with Iran to launch attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East. More than 50 U.S. troops have been injured in the attacks by the militants. It’s reported that six of Iran’s operatives were killed in the latest strike, which hit two sites in Syria. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said this morning that the U.S. will take all necessary measures to protect its troops.
Secret Service shooting: The Associated Press reported this morning that an official has told it that Secret Service agents protecting President Biden’ granddaughter Naomi Biden shot at three people who were trying to break into one of the detail’s SUVs that was parked outside of her residence in the Georgetown section of Washington. None of the intruders was hit and they fled in a red car, which was being sought by police. The AP said that the official who told them about the incident did so anonymously and could not discuss details of what happened.
Buys from Boeing: At the Dubai Air Show today, Emirates, the airline of the Arab Emirates, placed an order with Boeing for $52 billion worth of new airplanes. The airline is buying 90 of Boeing’s 777-model airliners. Emirates also has a low-cost operation known as FlyDubai, which placed a separate order with Boeing for $11 billion worth of airplanes. FlyDubai is buying 30 of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliners. The Dreamliner is a wide-body airplane and buying them marks an expansion for FlyDubai, which currently flies Boeing narrow-body 737 airplanes.
Scott quits: South Carolina Senator Tim Scott has dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Scott made his announcement while appearing on Fox News last night. His campaign staff was reported to have been surprised by the announcement. Just a few minutes before Scott dropped out, his campaign had sent out a solicitation for more contributions. Scott declined to endorse any of the candidates still seeking the GOP nomination.
McCarthy may quit: CNN reported this morning that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy may quit the House. McCarthy told CNN in an interview that he doesn’t consider the eight extremist Republicans who were instrumental in removing him as Speaker of the House to be true conservatives. He especially blasted Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida and said Gaetz was trying to stop an ethics investigation by removing him as speaker. McCarthy said he’ll be discussing with his family over the holidays whether to give up his House seat.
