Gov. Kathy Hochul is heading to Israel today as a show of solidarity with the country in its war against the Hamas terrorists based in Gaza.
“During these difficult times, it’s more important than ever for New York to show up in support of Israel,” said the governor in a statement issued yesterday evening, adding that she planned “to meet with diplomatic leaders and communities who have been devastated by the horrific Hamas attacks. New York will show the world that we stand with Israel – today, tomorrow and forever.”
New York is home to 21% of the nation’s 7.6 million Jewish Americans, according to Brandeis University’s American Jewish Population Project.
The New York Times reported that Hochul will first stop in Washington, D.C., to meet with Jeff Zients, President Biden’s chief of staff, regarding the Israel-Hamas war and the migrant crisis impacting the state. She is expected to return from Israel on Friday. Biden is scheduled to arrive in Israel tomorrow to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though it is unclear whether Hochul will also meet Netanyahu or speak with the president when they are in Israel.
