Starting this weekend, the cost of sending mail will be higher.
On July 9, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will raise the prices on first-class postage from 63 cents to 66 cents for a 1-oz. letter and from 60 cents to 63 cents for a 1-oz. metered letter. Postcard postage is rising from 48 cents to 51 cents, while certified mail is increasing from $4.15 to $4.35.
The new price hike is the USPS”™ fifth since 2019, when a Forever stamp cost 50 cents.
“As operating expenses fueled by inflation continue to rise and the effects of a previously defective pricing model are still being felt, these price adjustments are needed to provide the Postal Service with much needed revenue to achieve the financial stability sought by its Delivering for America 10-year plan,” said the USPS in a press statement. “The prices of the U.S. Postal Service remain among the most affordable in the world.”
