Border regulations: Title 42, the federal regulation put into effect by the Trump Administration to control border crossings during the Covid pandemic is due to be lifted tonight. The Biden Administration plans to put into effect tonight a new regulation that would deny asylum to anyone who enters the U.S. illegally.
Trump Town Hall:Â Donald Trump denigrated host Kaitlin Collins on CNN’s Town Hall telecast last night, at one point calling her a nasty person. Trump insisted he won the 2020 Presidential Election and said that he could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours presumably by withdrawing U.S. aid to Ukraine and letting the country fall to Russia. He praised the people convicted of sedition and sentenced to jail who attacked police in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and said he’d pardon most of them if he again becomes president. Trump also said that the U.S. might as well default on its debts and create a global financial disaster. Trump also again took on journalist E. Jean Carroll by calling her a whack job. A jury found Trump guilty of sexually abusing and defaming Carroll.
New EPA rules:Â The Environmental Protection Agency this morning published new rules that would limit the amount of carbon emissions from electric power plants. The rules are expected to significantly lower emissions from oil, gas and coal plants but result in a 2% increase in prices for electricity. The organization Americas Power, which represents the coal industry, says the rules are designed to force premature closing of coal-fired power plants.
Santos says he not guilty:Â Congressman George Santos pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in federal court on Long Island yesterday and was released on $500,000 bond. Santos is charged with 13 counts including wire fraud, theft of public funds and lying to Congress. Santos said he has every intention of running for a second term in Congress.
BLM shooting sentence:Â In Austin, Texas, U.S. Army Sergeant Daniel Perry was sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting and killing a demonstrator at a Black Lives Matters protest. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has said he wants to pardon Perry. The Texas Board of Pardons is reviewing the case and must recommend a pardon before Abbott can act.
Missiles for Ukraine:Â The BBC reported this morning that the UK will be sending missiles to Ukraine. The Storm Shadow missiles have a range of about 155 miles. They are fired from aircraft and then fly close to the ground to escape detection.
