The legend of Robin Hood can be traced back to late 14th century England, and the roguish hero of Sherwood Forest who robbed from the rich to give to the poor is back in a new series of commemorative stamps issued by the U.K.”™s Royal Mail.
The 10-stamp set depicts key moments in legendary life of Robin Hood, from him being declared an outlaw through the shooting of his last arrow while on his deathbed. The key players in the Robin Hood story are also featured ”“ Little John, Friar Tuck, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Maid Marian and King Richard.
If the illustrations for the stamps seem closer to contemporary style rather than Merry Olde England, that is because they were created for Royal Mail by concept artist Jon McCoy, who worked on popular feature films including “The Batman” and “Blade Runner 2049.”
“These atmospheric illustrations bring to life the timeless stories of the Legend of Robin Hood, his merry men and Maid Marian,” said David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail. “With its themes of friendship, loyalty, humanity and love, the enduring legend of Robin Hood has captured the hearts and imagination of people for centuries and will continue to do so.”
The stamps can now be purchased through the Royal Mail”™s website. https://shop.royalmail.com/special-stamp-issues/robin-hood
