Local sales tax collections across New York State during January were up 9.2% year-over-year, according to data from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
Overall, local collections totaled $1.89 billion, up $159 million compared to the same time last year. Delaware County recorded the largest year-over-year increase at 26% while Onondaga County had the lowest growth at 0.6%.
Within the Hudson Valley region, Westchester County took in the highest amount of sales tax collections at $79.2 million, an 11.6% year-over-year spike. Ulster County saw the greatest increase from one year earlier with a 13.1% bump-up while Rockland County had the lowest uptick at 4.8%.
“As we head into a new year, local sales tax growth remains quite strong,” DiNapoli said. “Consumer spending and a strong labor market have buoyed sales tax growth even as prices remain elevated. Local governments should budget cautiously as this growth may level off sooner than they expect.”

It amazes me that people forget important facts. Inflation was up to 9.x% so its not a strong labor market, or strong financial quarter. When you factor in debt consumer debt, sales actually dropped and the state is simply profiting off consumers burden. The state is killing its citizens and it is time we get real people that think completely instead of well trained idiots that do not know how to factor all factors before coming to conclusions.
