Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is calling on the public to report suspected violations of the state”™s gas tax holiday.
The tax holiday, which began April 1 and ends June 30, suspends the 25-cent state tax on gasoline. Any gas station suspected of charging that tax ”“ even a portion of it ”“ would face a probe by the Office of the Attorney General and penalties pursuant to the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act.
“It”™s important to remember that prices at the pump will continue to fluctuate along with changes in wholesale prices,” Tong said. “Not every increase, or decrease, in gasoline prices is related to the 25-cent tax or constitutes price gouging. Every complaint will be investigated and all facts will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.”
Tong encouraged consumers to file complaints online at https://www.dir.ct.gov/ag/complaint/.
