A grand opening ceremony for Fairfield University’s renovated Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex — the RecPlex — will be held on Sept. 2 at 3 p.m.
The event will formally introduce the new 40,000-square-foot, three-level, state-of-the art facility and will include a dunk tank featuring varsity coaches, followed by three Fairfield Fit classes starting at 5 p.m.
The new RecPlex includes modern seating areas, strength training suites and an upgraded Birkenstock Field House with interchangeable basketball, tennis and volleyball courts. Also available are cardio training suites, an elevated indoor track, racquetball court, improved infrastructure on the 25-meter pool, renovated locker rooms and new group fitness areas for yoga, spin, Pilates, and more.
Funding for the RecPlex project came primarily from alumni, parents and friends of the institution, including a challenge gift of $10 million from University Trustee John C. Meditz, $5 million from an anonymous donor, and another $1 million from alum Mark Beckwith and family.
